HOMEBIRTH
Homebirth is a subject that is near and dear to my heart.  I have had 5 homebirths and loved each one.  I believe homebirth is a safe and wonderful way to bring a child into this world.  I also feel that women have robbed themselves of one of God’s greatest expressions of womanhood by allowing the hospital to invade this most precious part of a woman’s life. There are times when a hospital and doctors are necessary and I have experienced that myself, but I still believe that homebirth is a better option than the hospital.  Homebirth needs to be an informed decision made with much prayer and agreed upon by both husband and wife.  I also strongly feel that a knowledgeable and experienced midwife is a must.  I had the same, wonderful Christian midwife for each delivery.   I had one hospital transfer (my 8th and last baby).  Because of the knowledge and quick decision making on my midwife’s part, we made it to the hospital in time for the doctors to help.  It is a midwife’s job to know when a birth is progressing normally and when something is out of the norm.
The best way to know if a homebirth is a consideration for you is to be well informed and ask questions and research.  Here are a few websites to help you get started.  There is also good information on these sites for anyone having a baby, homebirth or hospital.

Is Homebirth Safe??

I remember about 15 years ago I met a woman who had just had a baby at home.  I thought, ‘oh my!  Is this even safe!!??’.  Well shortly after that I found I was pregnant with our 3rd child and I talked with this lady again, she told me about her birth and it sounded so nice.  Nothing like I had ever experienced in a hospital.  So I called the mid-wife she had used and she came to my house for a visit.  My husband and I were filled with questions, but it seemed that the main question needing to be answered by us was.. “Is homebirth safe?”.  She gave us many facts that showed us that homebirth was very, very safe.  Midwives have a much better rate of vaginal births than doctors do.  There methods work with a woman’s body to help her give birth normally.  It was funny how it took me a little bit to realize that God created women to have babies!  It makes more sense to work with this process than to constantly interfere with it.  I did have a homebirth (and 4 more after that!) and it was the most wonderful experience I had ever had!  It was beautiful to have my husband right there in our home in our room helping me through my labor and birth. My midwife was supportive and calm and so good.  I was more relaxed due to being in my own home and not having to go anywhere at this time.  And of course my 8lb. 8oz baby girl was just beautiful! :)

I have done a bit of searching on the internet for articles on the safety of homebirth. As my midwife said to me those 15 years ago, “I never try to talk anyone into having a homebirth it has to be their own decision”.  I agree with this totally.   But if you are considering a homebirth and would like more information on its’ safety, I have a few articles here for your inform
ation.
